Amritsar (Punjab), June 30, 2026: Dal Khalsa has announced a Panthic Samagam on July 4 at Gurdwara Ranjit Avenue (B-Block), Amritsar, to commemorate the life and legacy of its founder and patron, Gajinder Singh, who passed away in Pakistan while living in exile.
According to the organisation, representatives of various Panthic organisations, scholars and members of the Sikh community will participate in the gathering to discuss issues concerning the Sikh Panth, including the supremacy of the Guru Granth Sahib and Guru Panth, the centrality of the Akal Takht Sahib, the Sikh struggle for justice and dignity, and the contributions of Bhai Gajinder Singh.
A key agenda of the meeting will be deliberations on evolving a Panth-wide, consensus-based code of conduct for the appointment of Jathedars.
Addressing the media, Dal Khalsa Secretary (Political Affairs) Kanwarpal Singh described Bhai Gajinder Singh as a leader who combined ideological commitment with personal sacrifice and remained devoted to Panthic principles throughout his life.
Referring to the recent proceedings at the Akal Takht, Kanwarpal Singh said the upcoming gathering would reflect on the direction of the Panth and reaffirm commitment to Panthic unity, the authority of the Akal Takht and Sikh institutions.
Commenting on recent developments, he claimed the previous day’s events at the Akal Takht represented a reaffirmation of the institution’s authority. He also criticised the conduct of Sikh legislators in Punjab, alleging that they failed to adequately defend the autonomy of Sikh institutions.
Reiterating the organisation’s stand on the proposed anti-sacrilege legislation, Kanwarpal Singh said Dal Khalsa continues to favour the repeal of the proposed law, maintaining that matters relating to Sikh religious affairs should remain within the jurisdiction of the Panth.
He added that while the immediate controversy had eased following recent developments, several concerns and long-term issues remained, which the organisation intended to raise with the Jathedar at an appropriate stage.
Dal Khalsa also said it was closely monitoring the Maharashtra Government’s next steps and would continue to pursue the issue until assurances made before the Panj Singh Sahiban are fulfilled.
The organisation has invited members of the Sangat, scholars, intellectuals and representatives of Panthic organisations to participate in the Panthic Samagam.
