Dhuri (Punjab), June 30, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said the state government will deliberate on the suggestions made by the Akal Takht regarding the Jagat Jyoti Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026 and place the matter before the Punjab Assembly.
He stated that the Sri Akal Takht is above everything for him and that its directives are supreme.
Speaking to mediapersons in Dhuri, Mann gave the government’s first reaction to the Akal Takht’s directive issued a day earlier.
Responding to a question, the Chief Minister said, We will deliberate on the suggestions received from the Akal Takht and place them before the House.
His remarks came after the Akal Takht directed the Punjab Government to keep the implementation of the Jagat Jyoti Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026 in abeyance until concerns raised by Sikh religious organisations are addressed.
The directive followed the appearance of Sikh legislators and Cabinet ministers before the Akal Takht to discuss objections to the recently enacted anti-sacrilege legislation.
The Akal Takht asked the government to keep the implementation of the Act on hold and carry out the required amendments within one month after holding consultations with Sikh religious bodies. It said the objections should be addressed before the revised legislation is taken forward.
