Delhi Metro shuts 16 stations amid CJP protest, commuters face major travel disruptions

New Delhi, July 22, 2026: The closure of 16 Delhi Metro stations on Wednesday due to security arrangements for the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest disrupted travel across the national capital, leaving thousands of commuters struggling to reach their destinations.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) temporarily shut key stations, including Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Mandi House, ITO, and Khan Market, citing security reasons.
The restrictions coincided with the CJP demonstration at Jantar Mantar, leading to significant inconvenience during the morning rush hour. Office-goers, students and daily commuters were forced to alter their travel plans, exit at alternate stations and rely on buses, cabs and other modes of transport to complete their journeys.
Although metro services continued on several routes, trains did not halt at the closed stations, compelling many passengers to take lengthy detours.
The disruption marked the second major metro shutdown in less than a week, following similar restrictions on Monday, further adding to commuters’ frustration over repeated travel disruptions.
