Punjab’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana provides cashless treatment to 2.91 lakh patients worth over Rs 1,044 crore

Chandigarh, August 5, 2025: The Punjab Government’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana (MMSY) has provided cashless treatment to 2,91,417 beneficiaries across the state since January 8, 2026, with healthcare services worth more than ₹1,044 crore delivered under the scheme, according to data released by the State Health Agency (SHA), Punjab.
Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh said the success of a healthcare scheme should be measured by its ability to provide timely treatment to people when they need it most.
“A healthcare scheme is successful only when it reaches people at the time they need it. Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana is not just about numbers; it is about ensuring that patients do not have to choose between treatment and financial burden. Every beneficiary represents a family that received support during a difficult time,” he said.
The Health Minister said the Punjab Government was working to expand access to cashless treatment, strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure that all eligible citizens receive the benefits of the scheme.
Several beneficiaries shared how the scheme helped them access treatment without facing financial hardship.
Sureshpal Kaur said the Sehat Card provided crucial support during a difficult pregnancy. She said she developed health complications due to high blood pressure and required a Caesarean delivery. After birth, her baby also required specialised neonatal care, which was covered under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana package.
“The scheme supported us during a difficult time and ensured that my baby received the care needed for a healthy start,” she said.
Rupinder Kaur of Sunam said the scheme enabled her to undergo a knee replacement surgery free of cost after years of severe pain had affected her daily life.
“I was suffering from severe knee pain, and the cost of surgery was a major concern. Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana helped me undergo knee replacement surgery free of cost. The treatment has helped me return to a better quality of life,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Bir Singh of Tarn Taran, received timely cardiac treatment under the scheme after being diagnosed with a heart condition. He underwent angiography and Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA).
“Doctors told me that heart treatment cannot always wait, and the expenses can place a major burden on families. Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana helped me receive the treatment I needed at the right time,” he said.
According to the district-wise data, beneficiaries from all districts of Punjab have received treatment under the scheme. Patiala recorded the highest number of beneficiaries at 27,892, followed by Bathinda with 22,584 and Ludhiana with 21,729.
Other districts with a significant number of beneficiaries include Jalandhar with 19,312, Hoshiarpur with 19,075, Amritsar with 16,550, Sangrur with 16,549, Sri Muktsar Sahib with 14,800, Ferozepur with 13,344 and Gurdaspur with 12,037 beneficiaries.
The scheme has also benefited 11,669 people in Moga, 11,516 in Fazilka, 10,539 in Mansa, 10,309 in Faridkot, 8,773 in Barnala, 8,714 in Tarn Taran, 8,574 in Rupnagar, 8,085 in S.A.S. Nagar, 7,933 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 6,999 in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, 5,928 in Kapurthala, 5,844 in Pathankot and 2,472 in Malerkotla.
The Punjab Government said the growing reach of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana reflects its focus on making quality healthcare more accessible and affordable. The scheme aims to ensure that patients can receive timely treatment without having to worry about arranging money during medical emergencies.
