British Deputy High Commissioner meets Punjab NRI Affairs Minister, discusses diaspora concerns

Chandigarh, August 11, 2026: British Deputy High Commissioner Alba Smeriglio and Madhu Mishra, Senior Adviser (Economics, Climate & Development), British High Commission, met Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Dr Ravjot Singh at the Punjab Civil Secretariat-1 on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Dr Ravjot Singh held detailed discussions with the British delegation on issues concerning the Punjabi diaspora in the United Kingdom and NRIs with links to Punjab.
The Minister said the Punjab Government was committed to maintaining regular engagement with Punjabis living abroad and addressing their genuine concerns effectively.
Dr Ravjot Singh also urged Punjabis in the UK and their families in Punjab to remain cautious of fraudulent and unauthorised travel agents.
He advised them not to fall for false promises related to visas, immigration, overseas travel or other services, stressing the need for greater public awareness to prevent fraud and exploitation.
The Minister informed the delegation that the Punjab Government will organise an NRI Milni in Bathinda on August 26, providing NRIs an opportunity to directly raise their issues and suggestions with the government. He invited Punjabis living abroad, particularly those from Bathinda and neighbouring areas, to participate in the event.
The two sides also discussed various concerns of Punjabis residing in the UK and NRIs with connections to Punjab, and emphasised the need to strengthen communication and cooperation on matters concerning the Punjabi diaspora.
