Government of India Reappoints Sukhwinder Singh Bindra as NISD Member for the Second Time
Chandigarh, 29- 8- 2026: The Central Government has appointed Sukhwinder Singh Bindra as a member of the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) for a second term, in recognition of his services and contributions. Sukhwinder Singh Bindra is currently serving as Member, NISD, and Special Member/Invitee, NCCDR, under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
The extension of his tenure by the Central Government comes in recognition of his work and contributions in the social sector. On the extension of his tenure, Sukhwinder Singh Bindra expressed his gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Cabinet Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar.
On the occasion, Bindra said that his department has always been making efforts to keep young people away from drug abuse. He said that his department, in collaboration with Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar, would continue working for the welfare of the youth. Every possible effort would be made for the welfare and development of young people and to keep them away from drugs.
Bindra also highlighted the important role of youth empowerment and awareness programmes in preventing drug abuse. He said that he and his department remain firmly committed to the welfare of Punjab and its youth and will continue taking necessary steps to protect young people from drug abuse.
At the same time, Bindra stressed the importance of sports in protecting the younger generation from drugs. He said that in the coming period, sports kits would also be distributed to encourage young people to stay away from drugs and participate in sports.
Bindra further said that additional efforts would be undertaken in the future to steer young people away from drugs and motivate them towards sports, so that the energy of the youth can be channelled in the right direction.
