Language Dept holds ‘Nayak’ stage play shows in Ferozepur, urges people to stand by truth, justice and integrity
Ferozepur, October 9, 2026: The District Language Office, Ferozepur, organised two performances of the play ‘Nayak’, written by renowned playwright Gursharan Singh, popularly known as Bhai Manna Singh, under the guidance of the Punjab Government and the Directorate of Language Department, Punjab.
Presented by Natraj Rangmanch, Kotkapura, under the direction of Rang Harjinder, the play highlighted the widespread corruption in the social system and conveyed a strong message to raise one's voice against injustice and follow the path of truth and righteousness.
District Language Officer Dr Jagdeep Singh Sandhu said that ‘Nayak’ presents a sharp satire on corruption in contemporary society. The play depicts an ideological conflict between two generations. On one side, an educated and progressive young man wants to secure a job on the basis of his merit, while his experienced father believes that getting a job without recommendation is difficult. Their conflicting viewpoints drive the story forward. Towards the end, the father joins his son in standing against the forces weakening the social system and resolves to follow the path of change.
The first performance was staged at Vivekanand World School, Ferozepur, where Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, president of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev Memorial Society, Ferozepur, attended as the chief guest. Appreciating the play, he urged students to protect human rights and never compromise on truth and justice.
Vice Principal Shipra Narula also appreciated the powerful performance. Principal Dolly Bhaskar, Jagraj Singh of Baba Kala Mehar Sports Club, writer Mahinder Singh, staff members and students were present.
The second performance was held at Dev Samaj College of Education under the patronage of Chairman Agnees Dhillon and Secretary Advocate Ajay Batta.
Eminent social worker and Senior Citizens Forum, Patron Harish Monga attended as the chief guest. Appreciating the performance, he said theatre was an art form that not only made people more sensitive but also inspired them to fight for their rights. He also shared experiences from his own association with theatre.
College Principal Dr Rajwinder Kaur and the staff extended their support for the successful presentation. Ramandeep Kaur conducted the stage proceedings, while Dr Parmveer Singh proposed the vote of thanks. Storyteller Gurdial Singh Virk and theatre personality Harpal Jamarai were also present.
Rang Harjinder, Sukhwinder Bittu, John Masih and Guru Gurbhej played the lead roles, while Mintu Malwai was the chief coordinator of the production. Dr Rajni, Arshdeep Kaur, Deepa Masih, Sapan Vats, Darshan Singh and especially Chetan Kumar, clerk at the District Language Office, Ferozepur, contributed to making both performances successful.
The performances left the audience with a strong message to remain alert against social evils, be aware of their rights and work collectively towards building a just and equitable society.
