Book on Patiala’s Journalists, ‘Patialvi Patrakar’, authored by Ujagar Singh released

Patiala (Punjab), October 9, 2026: A Punjabi book documenting the lives and contributions of around 158 journalists associated with Patiala across different eras, Patialvi Patrakar, authored by former Punjab District Public Relations Officer Ujagar Singh, was released here on Friday by noted educationist and social worker Babu Singh Guram.
Describing the publication as an important addition to Patiala’s journalistic heritage, Guram said documenting the lives, achievements and social contributions of journalists would preserve their legacy for future generations.
The book traces the journalistic journeys and contributions of media professionals associated with the region, offering readers and researchers an account of Patiala’s rich history of journalism.
Ujagar Singh said the publication had been sponsored by Guram and expressed his gratitude for the support.
The author has previously written around 17 books on social, historical, political and literary subjects. His works include Patiala Di Virasat, Samkali Samaj, Siyasat Ate Lok Sampark, Punjab De 52 Ratan Heere, Sardar Beant Singh Qatal Da Asal Sach, Punjab Dian Anmol Ratan Shakhsiyatan and Apne Sikh Samaj De Masle.
Guram expressed hope that more writers would document the contributions of notable personalities and important events, adding that such research-based works could help younger generations understand their social and cultural heritage.
Second edition planned within six months
Ujagar Singh announced that Manmohan Singh, son of his late friend and noted Patiala journalist Sohan Singh, had taken responsibility for publishing the book’s second edition within the next six months. Sohan Singh had published a daily newspaper titled Tir Kaman.
Manmohan Singh, a former Deputy Secretary in the Public Relations Department of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), has also undertaken to send copies of the book to universities across Punjab that have journalism departments.
Several senior journalists and media professionals attended the release and appreciated the initiative, saying the book would serve as a valuable reference for students, researchers and the younger generation.
Those who shared their views included Dr Harjinder Singh Walia of Time TV, international journalist Narpal Singh Shergill, Ravel Bhinder, former president of the Media Club Patiala and senior journalist with Punjabi Tribune, Jaswinder Singh Dakha, Sukannya Bhardwaj, Gurkirpal Singh Ashk, Harbans Sodhi, Gagandeep Singh Ahuja, Bhushan Sood, Jaspal Singh Dhillon, Chaudhary Prabhjot Singh and Satinder Singh Narula.
Patiala District Public Relations Officer Bhupesh Chatha and former District Public Relations Officer Kuljit Singh were also present.
Patiala Media Club president Parmeet Singh proposed the vote of thanks.
