Alka Nangia Arora assumes charge as Controller General of Defence Accounts

New Delhi, August 1, 2026: Alka Nangia Arora, a 1991-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), assumed charge as the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) on Saturday.
An alumna of Garhwal University, Dehradun, and IIT Roorkee, Arora brings more than three decades of experience in defence financial management and public administration to the post.
During her career, she has held several key positions in the Government of India, including Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Managing Director of the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Limited, and Additional Development Commissioner for Handicrafts under the Ministry of Textiles.
She has also led initiatives related to the promotion of handicrafts, agricultural research, procurement policy and public finance. Her professional training includes advanced programmes at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and the Indian School of Business, Mohali.
Arora began her career with the Ministry of Defence at the Dum Dum Ordnance Factory in Kolkata and subsequently held several important appointments in the Defence Accounts Department.
She has served in financial advisory roles with all three armed forces. Her previous assignments include Financial Adviser to the Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, Financial Adviser to the Army’s Eastern Command and head of the Area Accounts Office in Kolkata, and Integrated Financial Adviser to the Western Air Command and the Army Hospital Research and Referral.
She also served as Principal Integrated Financial Adviser to the Air Force Headquarters.
Before assuming the new charge, Arora held the position of Additional and Special CGDA at the CGDA Headquarters, where she oversaw policies related to audit, information technology and systems, integrated financial advice, and training.
