Foreign-based gangster’s operative held in Bathinda with pistol

Bathinda (Punjab), August 11, 2026: The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab has arrested an alleged operative of a foreign-based gangster network and recovered a country-made .32-bore pistol and two live cartridges from his possession, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Jasdeep Singh alias Jassa, 25, a resident of Beer Behman village in Bathinda.
According to the DGP, preliminary investigation revealed that Jasdeep had allegedly procured the illegal weapon on the directions of a foreign-based gangster and was planning to carry out a major criminal act in Punjab.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said further investigation is underway to establish the accused’s forward and backward criminal linkages.
Sharing details of the operation, ADGP AGTF Promod Ban said AGTF personnel were on routine patrol when they noticed a man behaving suspiciously near the boundary wall of Rajindra College in Bathinda.
The man allegedly became nervous after noticing the police vehicle, following which the team detained him and conducted a search. The pistol and two live cartridges were subsequently recovered from his possession.
Police said Jasdeep has a criminal history and has been involved in several cases, including those registered under the Arms Act and other criminal activities.
An FIR, No. 164 dated August 10, 2026, has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Kotwali, Bathinda. Further investigation is in progress.
