PM-KISAN extension for 5-yrs proves Modi Govt is farmer-friendly: Kewal Singh Dhillon

Chandigarh, August 1, 2026: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Saturday welcomed the Union Government’s decision to extend the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme for another five years, describing it as a historic and farmer-friendly step.
Dhillon said the Union Cabinet’s approval of a financial allocation of ₹3.15 lakh crore for continuing the scheme from the financial year 2026–27 to 2030–31 reflected the Narendra Modi-led government’s commitment to the welfare and financial well-being of farmers.
He said the decision would ensure that lakhs of farmers in Punjab, along with farmer families across the country, continued to receive financial assistance of ₹6,000 annually in three equal instalments directly into their bank accounts.
“The financial assistance will strengthen farmers’ ability to invest in agriculture, help them manage risks and provide a boost to the rural economy,” Dhillon said.
He added that the PM-KISAN scheme, launched in February 2019, was among the country’s largest Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) initiatives. According to Dhillon, more than ₹4.7 lakh crore has been transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts through 23 instalments so far.
The Punjab BJP chief said the Centre remained committed to strengthening the financial condition of farmers in the state. He said the Union Government was ensuring the direct procurement of paddy and wheat at record minimum support prices, with payments transferred directly to farmers’ accounts.
Dhillon also highlighted the Centre’s fertiliser subsidy, stating that the government was providing substantial subsidies on urea and DAP to reduce the cost of cultivation.
“Despite the increase in global fertiliser prices, the Modi government did not allow the additional burden to fall on farmers and ensured the availability of urea at affordable rates,” he said.
Dhillon said the Centre’s focus was on increasing farmers’ income, promoting sustainable agriculture and strengthening the rural economy. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of Punjab’s farmers for extending the PM-KISAN scheme and continuing what he described as farmer-friendly policies.
