PAU-KVK team led by Addl Director (EE) visits progressive farmers’ Gurjap Kisan Nursery 1313 in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, August 29, 2026: A team from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur, led by Dr Tarsem Singh Dhillon, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU, visited the fields of progressive farmers in Mamdot, Zira and Makhu blocks of Ferozepur district.
Dr Gurmel Singh Sandhu, Deputy Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, welcomed the visiting team and accompanied them during the field visits.
During the visit, the team inspected Gurjap Kisan Nursery 1313 of progressive young farmer Manpreet Singh at village Rahime Ke Uttar in Mamdot block. Manpreet Singh is engaged in raising vegetable seedlings as well as vegetable cultivation. Appreciating his initiative, Dr Dhillon encouraged him to maintain high standards of cleanliness and quality and emerge as a role model for other farmers.
He advised the farmer to expand the cultivation and nursery production of PAU-recommended varieties, including chilli hybrids CH-52 and CH-27, tomato variety Punjab Ratta, brinjal variety Punjab Raunak, onion varieties PRO-6 and PRO-7, and POH-1.
At village Karmuwala, Dr Dhillon interacted with another young farmer, Manpreet Singh, regarding his interest in the cultivation of black carrot, Punjab Black Beauty. He shared important information about the nutritional and commercial significance of black carrots, stating that they contain iron, calcium, antioxidants, polyphenols and several other health-beneficial components. He added that around 580 ml of juice can be extracted from one kilogram of black carrots.
Dr Dhillon also advised the farmer to work in coordination with a Food Incubation Centre to further develop and commercialise the venture.
The team also visited the farm of progressive farmer Parmjeet Singh at village Khanna, who has adopted several environment-friendly agricultural practices. Appreciating his efforts in crop residue management, direct seeding of rice, cultivation of garlic, potato and mint, and the operation of a Custom Hiring Centre, Dr Dhillon encouraged him to involve more farmers in sustainable farming practices and further strengthen efforts towards environmental protection and soil conservation.
Later, the PAU team led by Dr Dhillon also visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ferozepur. Dr Dhillon congratulated the KVK team on the publication of a booklet highlighting the agricultural diversity of Ferozepur district. He also suggested that the KVK continue its dedicated efforts to promote crop diversification and encourage farmers to adopt diversified and sustainable farming systems. At the conclusion of the visit, Dr Bhallan Singh Sekhon expressed gratitude to the visiting team.
