Chandigarh, July 7, 2025: The Indian Army paid a solemn tribute to Captain Vikram Batra, Param Vir Chakra (posthumous), on the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas at DAV College, Chandigarh — the alma mater of the Kargil hero. The event honored Captain Batra’s exceptional courage and supreme sacrifice during Operation Vijay on July 7, 1999.
The ceremony commenced with an introduction to Captain Batra’s gallant service in the 13 JAK Rifles, delivered by Naib Subedar Ghanshyam Dass. In a poignant moment, the Indian Army felicitated Captain Batra’s family — his father Girdhari Lal Batra and twin brother Vishal Batra — with a memento and a letter of gratitude, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to remembering the sacrifices made by the nation’s martyrs.
The tribute was part of a larger outreach initiative aimed at maintaining strong bonds with the families of fallen soldiers and conveying that their bravery continues to be honored.
Addressing the gathering, Brigadier V.S. Chauhan, Group Commander, NCC Chandigarh, urged cadets to take inspiration from Captain Batra’s life of valor and duty. DAV College Principal Mona Narang expressed immense pride in having had Captain Batra as a student, stating that his sacrifice had left a permanent mark of honor on the institution.
Girdhari Lal Batra, speaking at the event, said that his son’s heroism and legacy live on in the hearts of Indians. “His words ‘Yeh Dil Maange More’ still echo across the nation and reflect his unflinching spirit,” he remarked.
The programme also featured the screening of a short film on Captain Batra’s life, followed by a speech from an NCC cadet who highlighted his bravery and enduring legacy.
The Indian Army’s tribute stood as a powerful reminder of the nation’s collective gratitude for the courage and sacrifice of Captain Vikram Batra — a true hero whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
