Chandigarh, June 7, 2026: Punjab Finance Minister and Dirba MLA Harpal Singh Cheema on Sunday took a swipe at Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini over the turnout at a BJP rally in Dhuri, claiming the event reflected the party’s inability to connect with the people of Punjab.
Sharing a video purportedly showing rows of vacant chairs during Saini’s address in Dhuri, Cheema said the empty seats had delivered a clear message that the BJP was struggling to gain public support in the state.
“In this video, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini can be seen addressing rows of empty chairs at a so-called public gathering in Dhuri. These vacant seats send a clear message that BJP Punjab has failed to connect with the people of Punjab,” Cheema said.
The senior Aam Aadmi Party leader alleged that Punjabis had already witnessed what he termed the BJP’s “hollow promises and misplaced priorities” in neighbouring states and would not be influenced by what he described as divisive politics, hatred or misleading narratives.
Cheema asserted that the people of Punjab had made up their minds and were capable of distinguishing between political rhetoric and governance based on performance. He maintained that the state’s electorate would continue to reject attempts to polarise voters and would support politics focused on development, public welfare and accountability.
The remarks came in response to Nayab Singh Saini’s visit to Dhuri, where the Haryana Chief Minister had launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab and called for political change in the state.
