Punjab-based drug smuggler arrested with heroin on HRTC bus in Shimla

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), April 20, 2026: In a major breakthrough under its ongoing anti-drug campaign, Shimla police have arrested a Punjab-based young man with 26 grams of heroin (commonly known as “chitta”) from an HRTC bus.
The arrest was made by the Special Cell team near Tutikandi Bifurcation on National Highway-05 under the Baluganj police station area. Acting on a tip-off, police had set up a checking point and were conducting routine patrols when they received information about a young man allegedly transporting narcotics on a bus.
Responding swiftly, the police intercepted the HRTC bus and carried out a search operation. During the search, officials recovered 26 grams of heroin from the suspect’s bag.
The accused has been identified as Rajdeep Singh (30), a resident of Batala in Amritsar district, Punjab. He has been taken into custody and a case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Baluganj police station.
Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh confirmed the arrest and said the accused will be produced before the court as per legal procedure.
Police said the action is part of a broader crackdown against drug trafficking in the district. According to official data, 101 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act in Shimla district so far in 2026.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to intensify the fight against narcotics and urged the public to report suspicious activities.
