NCW Chairperson Vijay Rahatkar hears domestic violence complaints; says women’s entry into smuggling Is wrong
Ferozepur, September 24, 2026: National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijay Rahatkar visited Ferozepur on Thursday and reviewed issues concerning women’s safety, justice and welfare. During a women’s public hearing, she listened to complaints, including cases related to domestic violence, and directed the concerned officials to ensure effective and timely resolution of the grievances.
Deputy Commissioner Deepashikha Sharma, SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, ADC (Development) Krishna Pal Rajput and other senior district officials were present during the meeting.
As many as 20 complaints were heard during the public hearing. The women were given an opportunity to present their grievances directly before the NCW Chairperson, following which the concerned authorities were asked to take appropriate action.
Rahatkar stressed that women facing domestic violence and other forms of harassment must receive timely justice and that the police and administration should deal with such cases with sensitivity.
She also expressed concern over the involvement of women in drug-related activities and smuggling, describing their entry into such illegal activities as wrong. She called upon women to stay away from drugs and smuggling and play an active role in creating awareness against drug abuse in families and society.
During her visit, Rahatkar also held a review meeting with senior officials of the district administration and police. Issues concerning women’s safety, gender ratio, implementation of the PCPNDT Act, functioning of women protection officers and implementation of various government schemes for women were discussed.
She also interacted with women members of self-help groups and apprised them of various government schemes, including facilities relating to financial assistance and credit, aimed at promoting women’s economic empowerment and self-reliance.
