NHPC to boost local economy in HP: Displaced families to receive Rs 700 daily from Parvati-II project

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), March 27, 2025 – In a major financial relief for displaced families, the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) will compensate those who lost their land to the Parvati-II Hydropower Project.With power production set to begin soon, each affected household will receive a daily payment of ₹700 for the next 40 years.
Revenue Sharing Model for Affected Villages
As part of the agreement, 1% of the power generated from the project will be distributed among families in the six affected panchayats, including Rella, Banogi, Suchaehan, Dhaugi, Dushahad, and Rella-II.
Both the Central and Himachal Pradesh governments have issued notifications for the scheme, and NHPC has formally approved its implementation.
Additional Benefits for Displaced Families
Besides the financial compensation, project-affected families will also receive 100 free electricity units per month, totaling 1,200 units annually. NHPC will provide a 1% dividend to each household in exchange for the free electricity supply.
Awaiting Power Generation
Once power production begins in the Parvati-II project, displaced families in Kullu district will receive benefits similar to those of the Koldam project.Thousands of megawatt-hours of electricity will be generated daily, ensuring a steady income stream for affected families.
This initiative marks a significant step in compensating communities impacted by large-scale infrastructure projects while also contributing to the energy needs of nine northern states.
