Ferozepur Police bust cross-border drug smuggling gang, seize over 6 kg heroin; 3 arrested
Ferozepur, September 24, 2026: As part of the ongoing War Against Drugs campaign launched by the Punjab Government, the Ferozepur District Police achieved major success by busting a drug smuggling network. Police have arrested three members of the gang, recovering 6.255 kg of heroin, two motorcycles, and three mobile phones. Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu informed the press that special teams were deployed across the district to curb drug trafficking and anti-social activities under the supervision of gazetted officers.
On September 22, 2026, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Angrej Singh from the CIA Staff Zira received a tip-off while patrolling near Village Chogatte Wala. The information revealed that Satnam Singh alias Satti and a juvenile, both residents of Village Jakharwan, were receiving heroin smuggled across the border from Pakistan via drones. The contraband was handed over to Sukhchain Singh, aged 40, and Resham Singh alias Kakkar, aged 54, to deliver to buyers waiting near the Grain Market in Village Sadhu Shah Wala. Acting promptly, police raided the spot and arrested Sukhchain Singh and Resham Singh, recovering 6.255 kg of heroin and one motorcycle. A case was registered under FIR Number 119, dated September 22, 2026, under Sections 21, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Aref Ke.
During interrogation, Resham Singh disclosed that the heroin was smuggled from Pakistan via drones through Satnam Singh. On Satnam's instructions, Resham, Sukhchain, and another accomplice, Jeevannath alias Jogi, aged 25, were tasked with distributing the drugs. Based on this information, Jeevannath was named in the case and arrested on September 24, 2026, along with a second motorcycle and a mobile phone.
Police records show that several of the accused have prior criminal backgrounds. Resham Singh was previously booked under the Excise Act in 2022 after 100 kg of Lahan was recovered from him. Jeevannath alias Jogi was facing previous NDPS cases in Ferozepur and Mohali from 2021 and 2022. Meanwhile, Satnam Singh alias Satti and the juvenile remain absconding; both were previously booked under the NDPS Act and the Aircraft Act 2024 for drone-based drug smuggling earlier this year. Police stated that further interrogation of the arrested individuals is currently underway, and more disclosures regarding the drug supply chain are expected.
