Ferozepur, July 18, 2026: A major food safety violation has come to light in Ferozepur after nearly 4,000 litres of chemically contaminated milk meant for supply to Verka Milkfed was detected and destroyed by the authorities.
According to officials, a tanker carrying milk to the Verka Milkfed collection centre was found to contain approximately 4,000 litres of adulterated milk mixed with a harmful chemical, reportedly salt. The contaminated milk, valued at over ₹2 lakh, was immediately declared unfit for human consumption and disposed of in a sewage drain to prevent any risk to public health.
General Manager of Verka Milkfed, Sujeet Singh, confirmed that the milk failed quality testing due to the presence of the chemical. He said the department acted promptly by rejecting the consignment and ensuring that the entire quantity was safely destroyed. A formal complaint has also been lodged with the police, seeking legal action against the contractor responsible for supplying the milk.
Officials have removed the contractor from duty and recommended strict action under the relevant provisions of law. They stated that any attempt to compromise public health through food adulteration would be dealt with firmly.
The incident has also revived concerns over another alleged malpractice involving milk tankers. Reports suggest that in some cases, seals of milk tankers collected from dairy farmers were allegedly broken and milk siphoned off before reaching the processing plant. Authorities have initiated inquiries into these allegations as well.
The seizure has sparked concern among consumers and dairy farmers alike, with many demanding a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and ensure accountability. Authorities have assured that further action will be taken after completion of the investigation.
