Hyderabad, June 24, 2026: Senior IAS officer Sanjay Jaju has been repatriated to his cadre state, Telangana, in a move that has fuelled speculation about his likely appointment as the state's next Chief Secretary.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Jaju's return to Telangana following a request from the state government.
A 1992-batch IAS officer of the Telangana cadre, Jaju is currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). He took charge of the post earlier this year after serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The development comes as the tenure extension of the incumbent Chief Secretary, K. Ramakrishna Rao, is set to conclude on June 30. Rao has been serving as the state's top bureaucrat since May 2025.
While the Telangana government has not yet made any official announcement regarding the next Chief Secretary, Jaju's repatriation has strengthened expectations that he may be entrusted with the role in the coming days.
