AAP shines in Jalalabad and Mamdot, Congress sweeps Guruharsahai in Ferozepur Civic Polls; Watch Video
Ferozepur, July 5, 2026: The Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections in Ferozepur district produced varied political outcomes, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) retaining its dominance in Jalalabad, the Congress securing an overwhelming victory in Guruharsahai, and Mamdot Nagar Panchayat returning a mixed mandate in favour of the AAP and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) failed to secure a single seat in any of the three civic bodies.
The ruling AAP registered a convincing win in the Jalalabad Municipal Council, capturing 12 of the 17 wards. The Congress emerged victorious in four wards, while the Shiromani Akali Dal managed to win one seat. The BJP was unable to open its account, making the result a significant morale booster for the ruling party in the region.
The Guruharsahai Municipal Council witnessed a near sweep by the Congress, which won 13 of the 15 wards. The remaining two seats went to the Shiromani Akali Dal. Both the AAP and the BJP drew a blank despite the presence of prominent leaders associated with the constituency, making the Congress victory one of the most decisive results in the district.
In Mamdot Nagar Panchayat, the AAP emerged as the single largest party with nine seats. Earlier, nine AAP candidates had been elected unopposed, while two SAD candidates were also declared elected unopposed. In the polling held on Sunday for the remaining two wards, both seats were won by SAD, taking its tally to four members in the 13-member Nagar Panchayat. Voting remained peaceful under extensive security arrangements, which had been strengthened following incidents of violence during the nomination process.
The civic poll results underline the varied political landscape in Ferozepur district, with AAP consolidating its position in Jalalabad, the Congress reaffirming its strength in Guruharsahai, and Mamdot producing a balanced verdict with AAP holding the majority and SAD strengthening its presence. The BJP, however, failed to make any electoral impact across all three urban local bodies.
