Polling personnel dispatched for conduct of civic body elections
Tight security in place; 2340 police personnel on election duty
46 nakas and 32 patrolling parties deployed
SAS Nagar, February 13, 2021: Amidst tight security, the District Administration today dispatched around 2036 polling personnel to their respective polling stations for the conduct of civic body elections on February 14, informed District Electoral Officer, Girish Dayalan.
The dispatch was conducted from 9 locations namely Sports Stadium sector 78, DMO office sector 65, Market Committee office Banur , Century Public school Nayagaon, Polytechnic College Khooni Majra, Government College Derabassi, Govt. Senior Secondary school Lalru and EO office Kurali. Besides EVMs and other polling material, each polling party was provided with requisite number of Face Shields, Masks, Gloves and Sanitizers to safeguard against corona virus.
"We have made adequate security arrangements to ensure smooth polling,” said DEO.
“Around 2340 police personnel are on election duty including nearly 1100 at various polling stations. Besides, 46 nakas have been set up with 564 personnel working around the clock and in addition 32 patrolling parties comprising of nearly 160 police personnel have been deployed," he added.
Requisite trainings of the polling duty staff have been conducted and they have been directed to ensure smooth polling and to follow Election Commission’s guidelines in letter and spirit. They have been exhorted to conduct election duty with utmost dedication and devotion for successful completion of polls, said Girish Dayalan.
As a precautionary measure against COVID 19, thermal scanners have been provided at each booth. Thermal screening of all persons shall be carried out at the entry to every polling station. Social distancing shall be maintained. All Booths have been sanitised and sufficient quantity of sanitizer has been provided for voters and polling agents at each booth.
Pertinently, 468190 voters including 235441 male, 232730 female and19 third gender voters will cast vote at 509 polling booths constituted for the municipal elections. DEO urged all voters to exercise their right to vote and cast the vote between 8am to 4 pm on February14.
