Sidhu fully misused his power on polling day, but now whole Mohali will support Kahlon: Kulwant Singh on re-polling
Harshabab Sidhu
Mohali, February 16, 2021:
“In a bid to see Jeeti Sidhu as mayor, the health minister crossed all the limits on the day of polling in ward number 10,” said the former mayor Kulwant Singh. A few hours after the order of the state election commission for re-polling in two booths of ward number 10, Kulwant Singh along with Paramjit Singh Kahlon, a candidate from ward number 10, and other candidates, today addressed the media through a press conference at his office in Sector 79 here.
Speaking on the re-polling order by SEC, the former mayor said, “We are happy that the Deputy Commissioner of Mohali and the SEC has taken a good step to save the democracy and to ensure free and fair polling for Municipal Corporation. I hope tomorrow the re-polling will be conducted in a peaceful manner.”
Slamming the Sidhu and his brother Amarjeet Singh Sidhu alias Jeeti Sidhu, Kulwant Singh said with the full co-operation of the police, Jeeti Sidhu cast several bogus votes throughout the day. He said many voters were seen having fake voter ID cards, but the police and the polling agents did not stop them despite repeated complaints by Kahlon.
The Azad Group head also said the SEC removed 36 votes of Guru Asra Trust on the day of polling without giving any notice. He demanded that these 36 voters should be allowed to cast their votes during re-polling, as their votes were nowhere in the country. Kulwant Singh also questioned the work of Mohali SDM cum Returning Officer.
Paramjit Kahlon could not control his emotions today and said with his teary eyes, “I feel this is my victory that the SEC has ordered to conduct re-polling in booth numbers 32 and 33. The Sidhu brothers had created a Bihar-like situation on the polling day by capturing the booth and the police remained a mute spectator throughout the day. Even the Congress polling agents also threatened me when I was objecting on the whole matter.”
Kahlon alleged that DSP (city 2) Gursher Singh Sandhu and Inspector Rajnish Choudhary fully supported the health minister and took no action against them despite his repeated complaints. “Some outsiders kept sitting inside the polling booth including Devinder Singh Babla, but the police failed to stop them. Jeeti locked the gate of the booth from inside and keep casting votes for around 45 minutes. The votes of dead persons and those, who were not here on that day, were also cast by Jeeti,” said Kahlon.
Kahlon said that he had submitted a letter to the SSP and DC seeking identification and registration of cases against those, who were fabricating the documents of people for creating their illegal votes. He also demanded the proper police security of IPS officers throughout the time of re-polling in Phase 7 here.
Notably, Kahlon, who was contesting the elections from ward number 10 had leveled allegations against the health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu and the police for forcefully evicted his election agents from booths 32 and 33. He had stated in his complaint that a few workers of Congressmen illegally captured the booth in Phase 7. He demanded re-polling in his ward from the SEC.
