Chandigarh, February 19, 2021:
“The ruling party Congress has won but the democracy lost in the state. BJP rejects the results of civic body polls in Punjab, where the Congress crossed all the limits to achieve victory,” said Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma today.
While addressing media through a press conference at the party office, Ashwani Sharma said that the Congress got majority by misusing their power, police, and administration. Calling it as ‘Dandatantra’ of the Congress, Sharma said, “Congress should congratulate the state election commission and Punjab DGP instead of people for their victory. Even the SEC kept his eyes closed throughout the electoral process. The democracy was killed in these polls and people’s rights were also spoiled by the ruling party.”
He informed that a total of 1049 candidates from Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) contested elections of the civic body in the state despite facing attacks. “The Congress had made the environment worst for us and going out of the house was also a challenging task during the campaigning. Even, I was unable to go out of my house in such a pathetic atmosphere,” said the party president while adding that “Captain Amarinder Singh has done nothing in his whole tenure still the victory of his party is shocking and questionable.” He said Congress has looted the elections instead of winning them.
Talking about the upcoming assembly polls of Punjab, Sharma said that BJP was all set to contest state assembly elections in 2022 at their level. “The Vidhan Sabha elections are conducted by the election commission of India and hence, we have full faith in the commission,” said Ashwani Sharma.
