Fatehgarh Sahib, February 12, 2021: The campaigning for the civic body elections held in 76 wards of Municipal Councils of Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib, Bassi Pathan, Mandi Gobindgarh and Khamanon ended today. On the last day all the political parties pressed their star campaigners to woo the voters and hold corner meetings.
The Congress campaign in all the councils was mostly initiated by the respective Congress MLAs, AAP campaigned more aggressively than the SAD(B) in the district as State President Bhagwant Mann and Anmol Gagan Mann addressed various election meetings in the district. BJP was at the receiving end, whereas for SAD (B) halka incharges were the main campaigners.
Kuljit Singh Nagra MLA Fatehgarh Sahib had been campaigning aggressively for party candidates in Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib council from the last one week. He had been addressing half a dozen election meetings daily. Today he held a road show and addressed a dozen meetings.
He had been highlighting the development projects worth Rs.350 Crore being initiated in his constituency and seeking votes on the name of development and honesty. He is getting good response as he advocates that a Congress led Council is must to initiate development projects in the town as from the last four years there was SAD(B) president.
Kaka Randeep Singh MLA Amloh is campaigning day and night from the last one week in Mandi Gobindgarh one of the richest councils of the State to ensure the victory of his candidates. He is promising to make Mandi Gobindgarh one of the best towns of the State and he is getting good response.
AAP local leaders are making all out efforts to woo the voters. State President Bhagwant Mann and Gagan Anmol Mann also held road shows and addressed election meetings in Mandi Gobindgarh and Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib. They got good responses from the people, particularly the youths. Most of the AAP faces are new and they lack election experience but they are making all out efforts to contact and convince the voters.
The SAD (B) candidates are mostly dependent on the halka incharges. In Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib Didar Singh Bhatti and in Mandi Gobindgarh Gurpreet Raju Khanna are campaigning for their candidates and recounting the development initiated during Badal government. They have been highlighting the failures and false promises of Capt. Government.
BJP is facing the wrath of the farmer’s agitation and most of the BJP candidates could not convass freely. This factor may help the BJP as they may get the sympathy votes or succeed in consolidating minority votes.
The independent candidates are also trying to convince the voters and in certain wards they are in a fighting position.
Meanwhile Additional District Electoral Officer Hardial Singh Chattha said that respective SDMs have been nominated as Returning Officer. There are a total 136 polling booths out of which 48 are sensitive and 12 are highly sensitive. Candidates from two wards of Sirhind Fatehgarh Sahib and two wards of Mandi Gobindgarh have been elected unopposed.
