Nagar Council Shamchaurasi Records Highest 80.69 Poll Percentage, MC Hoshiarpur Registered 63.09
HOSHIARPUR, FEBRUARY 14: With 66.68 percent voting all the 142 wards witnessed peaceful conduct of municipal polls across district. Nagar Council Sham Chaurasi recorded highest 80.69 percent polling while Municipal Corporation Hoshiarpur registered 63.09 percent.
District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait, while thanking all voters, officers of district administration, police officials and political leaders, said that the smooth, fair and free voting was ensured with their wholehearted support and cooperation. She said that as many as 600 candidates are vying in 142 wards with total number of 222799 voters in these wards. She mentioned that voting started at 8 am and about 17 percent voting was registered by 10 am followed by 31 percent at 12 pm and 52 percent by 2pm. Counting will take place on February 17, 2021, she added.
Giving breakup of poll percentage, the District Election Officer informed that poll percentage of Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation is 63.09 while 71.57 percent voting recorded in Mukerian, 68.18 in Dasuya, 73.47 in Gardhiwala. Similarly, 75.60 percent voting registered in Haryana Nagar Council, 80.69 percent in Sham Chaurasi, 69.96 percent in Urmar, 73.79 percent in Garhshankar besides 70.75 and 74.44 percent in Nagar Panchayats Mahilpur and Talwara respectively. The District Election Officer further stated that there were about 126 sensitive booths out of total 223. The District Administration has made elaborate arrangements to ensure free and fair polls with deployment of Returning Officers, Liaison Officers from Police Department and 14 Duty Magistrate in different areas.
Taking round of a few polling stations in the city area, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the poll ongoing poll process besides interacting with the poll staff. She visited different booths including DAV College, Arya girls’ school, old committee office and Sainik welfare Office. She said that as many as 107 polling booths were set up for the 50 wards of Municipal Corporation Hoshiarpur while 25 booths had been made for 15 wards of Mukerian, 24 for 15 wards of Dasuya, 11 booths for 11 wards of both Gardhiwala and Haryana respectively, 9 for 9 wards of Sham Chaurasi, 19 polling booths for 15 wards of Tanda, 14 for 13 wards in Garhshankar. Two polling booths for two wards of Nagar Panchayat Mahilpur and one booth for one ward in Talwara was setup, she added.

On the peaceful completion of poll process, Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal today thanked the voters and said that due to the cooperation of the people of the district, free, fair and peaceful poll procedure could become possible in the district. He added that the entire polls in the district were remained completely peaceful. More than 2000 police personnel were on the job to ensure peace besides maintaining law & order, said SSP while lauding the professional commitment displayed by the force during duty. Meanwhile, SSP Navjot Singh Mahal along with SP (D) Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu and other officers visited various polling booths including Government College, Government Senior Secondary School (boys) Clock Tower, Shimla Pahari, ward no. 34, ward no. 5, and DAV College to inspect arrangements.
